K6NR US-Tower TX-455 Installation -- August, 2002

Part 2 - The Foundation

I hired Communications Service Company (Skip, KJ6Y) to do the tower installation  - I highly recommend him.  It is important to have someone helping you that has "done it before."  Skip even took delivery of the tower for me, got it off the truck, and brought it out to my QTH for installation.  But that's Part 3 - on with Part 2.

After the foundation was finished, I called the County and requested an inspection.  A few days later they came out and blessed the hole, rebar cage, and concrete forms.  I then scheduled a day for the concrete pour - the concrete company, Skip, and special inspector all had to be there.  Oh, and me too - I had to unlock the gate (I get the hard jobs).

The pour
The concrete truck drives onto the back yard, maneuvering between the guy anchor for my 80 meter vertical and the water faucet - he just fits.
Pour it in - that's KJ6Y on the left, and the special concrete inspector Dave on the right.  Because of the 3,000 PSI concrete requirement by US Tower, San Bernardino County required the special inspector.

Did I mention the temperature during the pour?  At least it was a DRY heat....
